Narcissistic Boors

Narcissistic boors can be so off-putting Always eagerly saying, "Look at me! I am the smartest, best-looking specimen On the entire planet, you can plainly see. I am the strongest, most talented person I will be the first, and I'll let you know it. And only those people who understand Can wallow with me in my bullsh**t. I welcome them into my private community Where we will become the best of friends, Should they have an opinion or question me That's where our coveted friendship ends." Once in the spotlight they can't get enough They will lie, cheat, and steal to keep it, But as time goes by their antics grow thin Their disappearance doesn't upset me a bit. written September 12, 2021

I rarely spend time with the "Narcissistic boors " any more; for an obvious reason. I may be running out of time and this is now how I want to spend my precious moments.

I hear you, Caren. Well, I certainly hope you outlast me! I, too, am more careful about whom I spend my "precious moments" with. Thanks so much.

I hope I'll never fall under the Narcissistic Boor category, Milton!! Such people have the ability to scare people away! ~ Regards // paul

Me neither, Paul. I would think they'd be very unhappy people, to be that insecure, and constantly having to bolster their own ego.

I learnt from my mental health nursing days that it's very difficult to cure a narcissistic personality disorder. You can try talking therapies but I came to the conclusion that you need to focus on supporting and looking after those around them more. Your poem, Milt, has much relevance to the world right now. Cheers - Gary

I'd say so, Gary. It has come to the forefront in the past three or four years.

The word 'boor' in Hebrew means the same as it does in English -- i.e., an ignorant snob. It is linguistically related to 'bor' in Hebrew, which means an 'empty pit.' The Sages point out: 'Eyn boor y'rey chet,' which means that a boor (an empty pit) does not fear sin... And thus enters Yom Kippur Wednesday evening, the Day of Atonement for Sins. Somehow, I thought you might be interested in all this, Milt. Here's to educated and intelligent passion, what we saw from George Bush Jr. today. :) gw

I'm sorry, but I didn't hear President Bush's speech. Thanks for the background information. It was much appreciated.

Sounds like a game of oneupmanship here Milton, someone trying to out psyche the opponent, funny thing though the narcissist in their own mind never loses, just become more paranoid in self delusion, which in turn like you said their antics grow thin, people eventually get fed up with them, and leave them to a lonely existence, I enjoyed this one cheers David

Thank you, David. Folks should always beware when they think they are dealing with a narcissist.

Milton, you write in an intelligent and lovely style, and I admire that about you. It conjures up images of a terrifyingly capricious individual. This poetry struck a deep chord with me. It was a healing experience for me to read this.

Just a guess, but your poem reminds me of a person who wears a red tie. Maybe the "Narcissistic Boor" of which you speak. It brings to mind an awful capricious character. I really liked this poem. It was cathartic for me to read
