Naïve Faith

Callow faith walks with wide eyes
In playgrounds littered with stark cunning
When adorned innocence
Seeks to soar where angels fly
Not blinded by fool’s gold
Nor looted by evil’s glittery tinsel
Or minds darkened by drugs of ebony
That plagiarizes honesty
With rationalized temptations
In ravished glamour.

Artless faith, clothed by incorruptible purity,
Shivers when simplicity senses
A wrinkle in infinity -
Guileless belief skirts gullible’s traps
Clothed in a gift of sight.

When beastly motives
Try to sideswipe honesty
With glitz and jewels of paste
Dangling shiny promises with dark underbellies
Naive faith, clothed in discernment,
Sees with candid clarity.

The rose still blooms despite attacks
By mold or mildewed rust
The sun still wakes the dawn
Even when eclipsed
Crowned by a faultless corona
As stars refuse to enter black holes
Faith embraces the innocent.

Heartiest congratulations on your top win in my contest with this outstanding poem, Sam. "Callow faith walks with wide eyes In playgrounds littered with stark cunning" I loved this opening line, especially.

What a beautifully powerful poem, Sam! Your phrases are exquisite and lasting. I love your poetic touch to "a wrinkle in Eternity." "...as stars refuse to enter black holes" and many more. A joy to read!

Thank you so much, Ann. I so wanted to express that faith is neither simplistic nor without wisdom or judgement. Thank you for affirming my struggles to express the depth of "naive" faith that is blessed. Sending you my gratitude and blessings!

Oh Sara, I am deeply grateful for your beautiful message! Thank you doesn’t really express my gratitude. I struggled with this theme and hoped that I could express that faith isn’t foolish or a Polly Anna but an amazing gift that is always seeking the place where “angels fly!” It is something to be cherished and desired. Sending you blessings!!
