My Words VS The Judges

I write because I love to write, writing for a contest makes me think. My imagination and creativity come alive, as the words dance across the page. Today I asked my words, what do they think about contests. They said, we bring out your humor on a happy day. We can also bring out, your sadness and despair. I then asked my words why some contests do not place, not even an honorable mention. The paper began to get wet, as my words started to cry. My words then asked, aren't the judges also your readers? I took a minute to think about this and said, yes they are. Maybe my readers are reading with a different pair of glasses, the judges is not reading but judging. My words then asked, why are rhymes not always a rhyme? A rhyme is a rhyme all of the time, if not then it could be free verse I replied. My words then said, be happy when you win we are. Oh yes I am happy win or lose, because my readers said they love it.

Good attitude, Paula. There's no rhyme or reason as to why some poet's poems get N/A'd in some contests. It just happens and we don't know why. Your poems, happy or sad, are always worthy. I don't enter as many contests as I used to because of keeping up with them. I have my share of N/A's. Keep up the wondrous writing. Blessings xox

Never let how someone judges your poem upset you, it is in no way a judgement on how good your poem is.. sometimes I get NA's for poems that have been POTD or had lots of faves.... some judges have their own taste...

I enjoy reading other people poems and always feel if I take ideas from them then I am sort of copying. So I would rather write my own but sometimes I totally do not get the meaning of what they want for contests. love phyl

and the beauty of the poem is that the words are yours, or at least were until shared....and then...well all the tuning forks do not resonate to the same frequency nor poems strike the chord in which they were written. //a person entered a shop, walked about, purchased nothing. A friend of the shop owner asked: "how do you make a profit?" The shop owner replied: "the dust of his shoes is profit for he entered my shop"

You made a great point in your poem. It is so important to enjoy the wisdom you write in your words, even if some might not like or whatever the reason. Your words are you and how you think and how you feel and that is what is important. I feel that if one doesn't care for my work, it's ok, my make-up and thinking is not like them. That is why we are all different and that is our beauty. I don't enter many because I know they are not going to like it; it doesn't stop me from learning from them. Blessings my friend.

Your poem says a lot about writing for contest and wondering about how the poems are judged, Paula. There are too many factors and variables to know for sure why a poet is a winner or not a winner. It's best to enter for fun and write to grow and be challenged, but not let the outcome affect your attitude towards writing. I enjoy reading your poetry. Thanks for sharing it with us. Awwn this made me feel so much. Heartfelt poem dear paula, its not easy for judges to judge, sometimes theres so much we look at. As a judge i read couple of times, and to avoid being biased i often judge with another poet that is my cousin or twin. So sometimes results can vary. But the ending here shows how you perceive it in a very positive manner which is brilliant. Sending you light always
