My Sweetest Love

You were the one 
      the only one
to gaze into my soul 

our love so deep
    through many years
grew stronger
even through our tears  
    whatever life would throw our way
together so strong 
we swept it away 
           
we loved each other so

But evil slithered in the night
   we lay without a care

malevolent  ~  malignant
    silently growing
         slowly strangling
               to finally destroy

    my sweetest love ~ you had no chance

Even when your heart and soul
     took on the challenge
         took up the fight

A love so strong 
    our whole life long
was not enough  ~  despite            

so when at last the monster won
     my life I lived without the Sun

For you my love were dead 
    how could my life go on

But evil cannot break true love
    such love we had goes on and on
until we meet in paradise

your love is deep inside my soul

Panagiota Romios June 24, 2019 at 7:03 PM No, Love cannot be broken even by death. What a loss Anne. My husband died at age 40. But we have to keep going.Life strangely works to our benefit. It's hard to get things in perspective after a loss. You will see him again, Anne. Your poem is beautiful!
