Notes About The Poem

Greg Barden and I had a 'poppy dialogue', after he read this poem of mine on my blog, and I realised I never posted it here. Read Greg's poppy poem here:

My Sweet Poppy

My lovely short-lived flower
Your sweet red tender petals
Raised proud towards bright sunlight
So frail, endlessly frail

I am with you in your garden
Kneeling down between you
Curling up while listening
To your soft red whispering

The blue sky high above us
Is playing with your colour
The yellow sun completes it
Primary shades of lost lives

This is the perfect setting
Of sun and your short life’s end
Give me the peace to stay here
Like you I will be reborn

I really love the meter in this poem Darren, and yes a hard form I'm sure but you've mastered it, no doubts about that. Now about the poem, it is truly wonderful, and you are a very gifted young man indeed...Maria, xxx

They love it and yet you hate it for all the ruined lives. Yes, "the poppy is also a flower." A very well written poem, I like the meter.

Another beautiful poetic offering from your gifted pen. You have painted a beautiful garden in this one, where spring is alive and the flowers are blooming and I love the ending. Perfectly done Darren.

Thank you so much my friend :) I love this poem too. On my blog it is accompanied by a watercolor painting by my friend, but I cannot post that in public without her permission.
