My Secret Place

When the infinite sky is motionless above me,
     and a deep cerulean blue and the air is withering;
I go to my secret place deep in the lush forest,
     and beside an aquamarine stream I lay my blanket.

On summer days like this I feel lazy and hazy,
     drifting into solitude-  I begin to notice sweet smells;
of herbs growing close by in brilliant chartreuse,
     and clusters of precious fragrant purplish lavender.

Oh, delicious the view and perfumes of the forest,
     and my childhood delight-  lemon yellow dandelions;
bringing back memories of walks with my mother,
    and the rows of drooping treasures on her kitchen sill.

A little walk about in the silence of birds chirping,
     and I find a group of coral bells thriving in the sun;
I recall a cabin had once been in this very spot,
     and oh heaven- I discover the herb saffron in lilac.

Soon, I gather my bouquets of fragrant discoveries,
    and leave the forest, refreshed and inspired;
what a wonderful retreat this has been on a hot day,
    to dwell in the green, rich with seasonal color.
