My Prayer

Dear God

Well you didn't expect to hear from me did you!
Guess I don’t talk to you often enough
Forgive me
I have so much on my mind but you already know that
Dad is dying but he’s happy he knows where he is going
Can you have a word with St Peter for me please?
Get him to make dads final journey a peaceful one
And can you look after dad please
Make sure he has a supply of plain chocolate in heaven
He won’t be entirely happy without it
We will try our best to look after mum when he’s gone
Although I think she may want to join dad pretty quickly
After fifty-eight years together it will be so so hard for her
Please look after them both please God
Amen

Yes there is even humour in this write - despite being diabetic dad just loves his plain chocolate and there is always a bar on his coffee table. Our dentist came to his 90th birthday even she brought him a bar of Bournville... but I did have to tell her which shop to buy it from! Hugs Jan xx

I believe God expected to hear from you because he knows your heart. I ask God to comfort you and your family in your hour of need. I add my thanks that your parents know God, for death will hold no power over them. Amen.

Dear Jan, Your sad letter to God touched my heart. Too well I know the angst of having one parent outlive the other. It would be very difficult for a spouse of 58 years to move forward after losing their mate. Having chocolate in heaven was a very sweet reference. May your prayer be welcomed and honored by Regina. Love, Carolyn
