My Parting Gifts

The Angels have come
to take me away
The only hug I can give
are the words I write today
In my shaking hand
They've placed a golden pen
So I ponder my past
my here now and then

What words of wisdom
do I have to impart?
At this moment
I wish to express my whole heart
When you find your soul is aching
and you're far from okay
The best gift I can offer
is to learn how to pray
For nothing is as bad
as often it seems
Although life has tearful moments
you must cling to your dreams

Cry when you need to
don't keep emotions trapped inside
Happiness needs growing space
It's blocked by what we hide
Let tears cleanse your spirit
loss and love makes you whole
Don't avoid your sadness
it strengthens the soul

Nothing is forever
so take many chances
Each stage in your life
is a collection of dances
Breathe in every moment
until your very last breath
Because not truly living
is a sad sort of death!

Richard - I was drawn to your line; 'loss and love makes you whole'. Reminded me of Ecclesiastes 7:3 "Sorrow is better than laughter: for by the sadness of the countenance the heart is made better." Good luck in the contest.

richard< I need to revise mine yet, but I had two of your three gifts in MY poem (don't want you to think I copied you). I was going to be sarcastic with it, try for humor, since this is such a difficult challenge for me. I think I need to go to serious because the humor may be misuderstood. SUre hope mine will look as nice as yours when I am finished!

You are right. We too often do not let our true emotions out and hide what we really feel. Good luck in the contest. Oh I do share my tears do I not? Miss you Love Mom

This is such an awesome write Richard. Love the wisdom shared, especially when it comes to tears.. People think when you cry it is a sign of weakness. First poem I read today. It is a gem. All the best for the contest :)

I run out of compliments it seems when reading your introspective pieces. All I can say is what it meant to me ... I wholeheartedly agree with your humble advice, and each line was dripping with wisdom (perhaps even like liquid moments).

I enjoyed your write very much, many lines are incredibly beautiful and all stanzas touching. I teared up writing mine and spent the day shaking it off! Wasn't it hard to pick just 3 philosophies! Oh, did you ever have to make up your mind. All the best ... CayCay
