My Old Cat

My old cat lies beside me on the sofa asleep She is sleeping soundly but opens an eye to peep She is resting her weary old bones tonight She peacefully sleeps her coat shines in the light She can’t move quick enough to catch her prey She used to be really fast back in her day Now she just watches and thinks about sleep An appointment with the sofa to keep Shan used to be a kitten a long time ago It’s hard to remember because now she is slow Her hearing is going her eyes are failing too It may get much worse but what can you do? She will be looked after well in her dotage years I will feed and nurture her dispel any fears My old cat Shan is lovely I don’t want her to go Shan is eighteen years old now and I love her so

Wow, what a tribute to your old cat Shan, Pam! I always had cats before, but here people are different and some landlords won't like pets. But I am sute that one day I will have a cat again. But since some months now I am feeding my neighbours cat...Thank you for your comments....Gert

What a beautiful love for your cat. I know how you fell. I have one that is 13. She started looking fragile for awhile. Now, we bring her in for feeding and she has gained weight again. The other cats started to run her off from the food. Being allergic to cats and dogs, I have to keep them outside. But I often sit on the deck in the ole rocker and one by one they come over to be pet. Callie and I are old friends. And I love her a lot, too. I enjoyed your poem. Lovingly, Dane Ann

I love your affection for your cat, I have one of my own, a Manx cat, he is a joy to me. I raised him from a kitten. Amazing, how attached to an animal we humans can get. Smile! Good write, Sincerely, Love, Moses
