My Near Death Journey

back in 2012 I got sick and thought it was my end I believed that my writing days were over so I deleted all my poems on Poetry Soup but for some reason not my account did I still have hope ... I did end up in the hospital (stayed there for six months ) the doctors told my family to prepare themselves they kept me in intense care for weeks my sister came every day to weep I had dreams of my mother calling my name from far away I was running through trees searching searching ... then, one day I woke up to find out I had kidney failure but, I survived and I am telling you this story it was a long recovery in hospital I live with one kidney now and treasure each new dawn when I started feeling better I began walking around and found the hospital chapel on a table was a Bible...1 opened it and that has made all the difference back in my room I wanted to write I called my family to bring me paper and pens my brother set me up with a computer and I began writing again ... _______________________ May 22, 2022 Poetry/Free Verse/My Near Death Journey Copyright Protected, ID 05-1458-020-22 All Rights Reserved, 2022, Constance La France Written for the contest, How You Live or Have Been Healed From A Difficult and Challenging Health Condition Sponsor, Angela Tune, Judged 06/07/2022 Second Place

I always say that nobody knows what others go through unless they choose to tell you and I’m grateful you have. You were not the only beneficiary from your recovery. Without it we wouldn’t be able to experience the pleasure your writing brings us. Soupers are one of many outlets and important supportive people that are helping me through my illness and I hope we can all continue to be supportive and encouraging to each other especially at our most difficult times.

I didn’t know this about you, Constance. Your poem is very moving and I see the hand of God in this near death experience to preserve your life…both physically and spiritually. It was not your time to go, and we get to benefit from reading your incredible poetry! God bless! :)

3-months in hospital was more than enough for me! Congratulations on your survival! As for your "lost" poems, they are still floating around the internet - somewhere! Aloha!

Rico, thank you so much for the visit, 3 months in hospital is long and 6 even longer, if not for writing I would have gone nuts (and the TV). The hospital had a coffee shop and I would go each day for a real coffee and take it outside, my sister said that I made my little section of the hospital room a nest, that's what I do, blessings ~Constance

Situation, thank you so much for the visit and comment, so you are going through this same thing, it is not easy, writing really helped me so if you can just start penning words, just let them fall, yes, sadly every poem pre about August 2012, is lost to me now, because I destroyed all hard copies also, blessings ~Constance
