My Name
You don’t hear my name
Even though I tell you, brave
I stand before the bigots:
Please let a single fossil rule cave
And that I would even find the care
To tell you of the night in my mind
That buries me even in daylight
You could see how acceptance is kind
Shine, a name that reflects the light
The truth about my hidden soul
Something you never knew
But will learn does make me whole
You don’t hear the name I choose
Because, perhaps, you think you lose
The child that you raised to be
But believe and know I still am me
