My Mortal Muse

I leave this Earth with a toast and a wink. Seems just last week I played with rocks and sticks. I have had the best of it all, I think. We won a world war when I was just six. I saw Elvis sing with an attitude - The Packers were the best that ever played. Then Marilyn just laughed when she got nude, And the Beatles came and just stayed and stayed. Frank Sinatra sang and young girls would swoon, The world still seemed new and so funny and free, Then we sent astronauts clear to the moon. And I was glad that the world still had me. So I tip my hat and bid you adieu For I had the best of it all I think. As I shuffle off with an old "soft shoe", Can't help but give you a toast and a wink! 7-15-18

Larry, this is so charming and whimsical, and it left me with a smile on my face, not something I was really expecting with poems about the final goodbye, and thus was a very pleasant surprise! It is also crafted with care and acumen, and bounces along with the same wit and beauty as the message itself. Just love it - be VERY proud! Congratulations on your THIRD PLACE in the 'My Muse, Mortal' Poetry Contest! :-) (I am stunned this is the first comment - perhaps a few more now, I hope!)
