My Lover Does Await

I wait for you to see me through the night,
for nightmares come and capture me in dread,
I seek from you my solace and your light,
to guide my dreams to paradise instead.

Oh Angel can you wrap me in your wings,
to cradle me in blissfulness to sleep,
and quell my screams so only I will sing,
I hope tonight my eyes can keep from weep.

Sweet Angel pray with me I'm in the dark,
this place I'm lost and wishing I was blind,
my love has died I'm feeling pretty stark
in madness from the visions in my mind.

Oh Spirit be my guide to Heaven's gate,
and sate my heart my lover does await.

A sad sonnet that touched my heart. I've heard it said, "it's better to have loved and lost, than not to have loved at all."

Hello Susan, I just had to read another one of you sonnets here. This one is a beautiful love poem for sure!! (Silent One is spot-on with his comment below.) This one has a different flow from the other two of your latest sonnets I just recently read. But this is to be expected, of course, since each poetic theme calls for a different set of ideas, words, metaphors, and images. Sonnets can be challenging to write, but the end result is always worthwhile!! Superbly done!! Cheers and Best, Gary

I hope this one is fiction, Susan, mingled with bits from your life's journey, rather than a 'weight' you currently carry because it expressed a longing for release in the most passionate of pleas - almost desperate. By the end, I was praying for immediate escape as desired. I enjoyed reading it. Blessings ... CayCay

CayCay, this is strictly my heart's imagination at work along with bits and pieces of my life's journey to flavor my poem. Thank you for your sweet concern my friend and your caring comment. In this poem, the voice's desperation intensifies especially during the long sad nights when she's alone... Your wonderful insights and friendship is so appreciated. Warmest wishes ~Susan

Very powerful imagery and an evocative write, Susan. I have never been brave enough to tackle IP, but if Andrea says the meter is "impeccable" that's high praise indeed! Best of luck in the contest. Regards, John.

John, I read your kind words with much appreciation.. This sonnet was not written for a contest. I wrote it to practice meter, but it could end up in a contest at some point.. lol! Thank you for your awesome comment and wonderful visit.. Warmest regards.. ~Susan

Nicely done, Susan. I like how it's talking to an angel instead of directly to a lover. Somehow makes the sentiments more exquisite and wistful. Enjoyed! :)

Thank you Bernard. It was just one of those things where the first line just came to me and the rest followed. My main focus actually was to practice meter... I thank you for your kind thoughts and your lovely comment is so appreciated. I'm so happy you enjoyed my poem my friend! ~Susan
