My Long Lost Friend
MY LONG LOST FRIEND (NIGERIA)
By Edward Ntebri Egbelo
Just like snow you left the clouds; withering the earth with enclaves of your shadow
Memories can never escape the glimpse of your far gone character; your smiles of hope in moments of dismay
Your pedigree nature in guiding human opinions
Your strength in conquering strange battles with sanguinity and fervour
O!!! Behold thy old self; gazing at the failing mirrors
Jealousy has enclave thy mind with malevolent and odium of close friends
Where is that integrity I use to envy, that humility I use to covet, that optimism I use to hanker? All sucked up; by that quintessence of sleaze
Wake up my friend; up from thy waning slumber
The road is tapered; assuredly coarse and short
But they is surely a destination
Hope fills thy fading face; you will surely conquest over your qualms.
The dreams you beseech will surely be your climax
Your victory is not far-flung my friend; it lies in the neighbourhood
Waiting for you to grab it with complete vigour and sincerity
Haste should be far a point from grasping it
Hold tight my friend, enjoy the cool breeze of nature and acquire your birth right with integrity and honesty.
God bless you my friend
God bless Nigeria
