My life Into an Unimagined Future
“The future is an unimagined landscape” – Thomas S. Monson
I look back at my yesterdays -
my childhood anxieties, yet oh, there also were
so many simple glories and delights.
Summers were ice cream days and firefly nights.
Fall was back-to-school and trick-or-treat anticipation.
Winter brought snow escapades and Yultide fun.
Before my adulthood had begun,
no concept of my future did I have beyond my dreams:
pure fantasy – naive romantic notions.
There are no magic potions.
Life overtook me; I’ve learned that the future for myself
as I had pictured it was not to be.
Where I’ve ended up, I do not see
fireflies. Christmas wonder too has disappeared,
along with the thrill of Halloween.
Decades since my age of sweet sixteen,
I find myself with trials entirely unforeseen.
There is also good, and still I am alive.
There are certain ways in which I thrive.
My family, hobbies, and poetry sustain me now although
years in my profession have turned to dust.
Onto new horizons I am thrust.
Technology, strange health issues, and perilous world conditions
have formed a landscape unimagined in my youth.
