Notes About The Poem

So often we bemoan the up-and-coming generation.  Here's my take on things...

My Kids Are Not Like Me

I learned to add, subtract, multiply and divide,
And always followed the teacher's directions.
  My kids solve complex problems collaboratively,
  And make unshakeable lifetime connections.

So, I did as I was told
til I was 40 years old,
  'Stayed in my place,' 
   and wasted the 'best years of my life;'
  
While my kids try new things;
They take chances and risks.  
  With a network of friends to support them,
  and the confidence to recover from setbacks
         mighty quick!

FINALLY, perhaps, a generation has made good on the promise/premise to give its kids the advantages it didn't have! :) Gershon
