My Hymn
As early dawn, slow breaking o’er the beach,
Paints the pale blue background of the sky
In watercolor streaks of rose and peach,
A feast God spreads for those with sleepy eye
Who needs must rise to start their chores
Before the rooster crows his bright alarm,
We two will rise and open wide the doors
And start our day with beauty, arm in arm.
Although the weather all too soon can change
And bring us thunderclouds of black and gray
Or if far and wide our difficulties range
And for surcease of problems we would pray,
That precious gift we find so like a hymn
Sustains and keeps us going through the day.
We keep our hearts and minds attuned to Him
Our true direction and our sacred way.
