My Heart Still Remembers

My heart still remembers the days of our youth
When searching for answers we stumbled on truth
We were meant for each other as night into day
And you swore to be true promising never to stray
We looked to the future so young and so bold
Thinking we knew how the years would unfold

We stood before God with stars in our eyes
Never thinking one day we’d say our goodbyes
I see you standing there handsome and young
Knowing our future had just begun
We lived our lives as though we were one
Sharing trouble and heartbreak with days in the sun

Today we said our last goodbyes
I whispered I love you as I closed your eyes
Our journey is over...I'm alone and bereft
The memory of you is all I have left
But my heart overflows...my heart fills with joy
Knowing our love even death can’t destroy

Is it true, it sounds like a most wonderful love imaginable. Reminds me of the poetry my friend Lin in England writes for her deceased husband. Better to have loved. . .

Yes Andrea...it's true! We were married for 40 years and he died a month later. Still seems like yesterday to me! Love, Bea
