Notes About The Poem

My Furry Feline Friend

Abandoned as a little kitten... You’ve been my constant companion Velvet padded paws hiding such sharp claws Sleek silky silver grey coat My furry feline friend Kitty when you were younger You’d bring home a tiny mouse Now we are both arthritic And confined to our small house You climb on my lap Purring so contentedly I stroke your soft fur Soon we are both fast asleep Approaching our twilight years It takes four Poetry Contest Sponsored by Broken Wings Crystalline - 2 lines of 8/9 syllables or 9/8 syllables, unrhymed Kimo - 3 lines 10/7/6 syllables, unrhymed Quatrain - 4 lines, line 2 and 4 rhyme, lines with similar number of syllables Tanka - 5 lines, 5/7/5/7/7 syllables, unrhymed Checked with how many syllables 08~11~16

That's sweet, Jan. I like the "Now we are both arthritic" line. We had to put our 17-year old cat to sleep after she started having seizures. Congrats!

It's a bit bizarre Tom as on Friday I was diagnosed with moderate arthritis in my neck and spine ... I didn't see the doctor until over a week after I wrote the poem and had my x ray only last week .. funny how my words have come back to haunt me . So sorry to hear about your cat - they are so much part of the family:-( hugs Jan xx

Hi Jan, love this one, best wishes for the contest. An excellent write Jan. I do love cats. They seem to like me too, i think it could be something to do with my victorian beard. I don't know what it is, animals just seem to like me. I like the four different forms. You really have done an amazing job on this one. As i said at the beginning i wish you well in the contest. A definite seven Jan. Hugs....Mike. XX

Well done - and good luck with the contest. Well written, I am an animal lover - I had a cat that lived to the ripe age old 26 and then sadly she had to leave me. All the best there. Your new poetic cyber friend Mark

Gosh Mark 26 is an amazing age for a cat - our family cat got knocked down and killed, we never got another - I am allergic to their fur but was fine with our own cat!:-) hugs jan xx

I wish Tim but I'm allergic to animal fur lol - true story my friend's son was studying in Chicago - he 'adopted' a dog then found it was pregnant ... he stayed past the time university ended, found homes for the puppies and brought the dog back to the Island!:-) hugs Jan xx

Hi Jan, You are so talented my friend. I really enjoyed how you combined all of the forms. You made it look easy. I haven't had a cat since I was a young child, you made me wish I had one. But (reality check)my kids are still young and that would be too much. Great job. I wish you the best of luck in the contest. A Big seven: -) Alexis
