Not for the contest
I have a pussy cat, my cute mischievous pet.
She loves me more than anyone, I can bet.
Among felines, she is so smart and clever,
Too adventurous, never once a bit demure.
Sleek and slim she is with whiskers long,
They stand out like plastic bristles strong.
During day she snuggles on my cot,
And sleeps never annoyed by a nagging thought.
When my fingers move over my cute elfin,
She wakes up and rumbles like a car engine.
She has damp nose, delicate ears, and soft silky fur.
She nudges on my legs and feet with a soft purr.
She often rests on her soft paws with claws sheathed.
Sometimes, seen lying with legs outstretched,
Nibbling at her own feet with her sandpaper tongue,
Curling and twitching with the tail widely flung.
At night she wanders out and prowls
Searching for her prey like nocturnal owls.
Sometimes she comes inside with a frog or fledgling,
And into some secret corner steals quietly settling.
Once I saw her longingly eyeing the glass jar
Which was kept close to the table not far.
In it swam merrily a few ornamental fish.
Darting up and down in water moving with a swish.
I knew what her intent was and moved it to a safer place.
I was sure my jar with the fish was safe in the new space.
But she continued to entertain her fancy of having the fish,
And carried it in her heart like a haunting secret wish.
One day I saw water spilled all over and the jar lying broken,
And all my fish sadly missing, leaving my heart utterly frozen.
Foolish I was to think, she would be satisfied with mice and rats,
But over everything, she preferred fish like most other cats.
