My Father, Upright

In the twilight
of his life
my father, erudite
said to me

Beware the praise singer
strangers who linger
the beggar, the liar
the lottery bookmaker

Son, he said again
watch travelers at dawn
those seeking gain
avoid the late comer

My father said to me
this is the key
my son, upright
this is your cue

An upright father - his wisdom a gift to be treasured. And you have not forgotten his wise words. Lovely reminiscence.

I have read several of your writings. This is my favorite thus far. What a wonderful tribute to your father and sound advice for us all. Thank you for sharing with all of us on the soup. oldbuck
