My Ego Got In the Way

I was going to text you that I miss you, but my ego got in the way
I was going to say I love you, but my pride told me to throw them thoughts away
I was thinking that I'd like us to try with each other
I was going to tell you I want you, but my Ego got in the way

As I've got older, it's became easier to tell men and women apart
Men get damaged egos, females get broken hearts
Females are stronger and are better at keeping their emotions in check
While men try to move on from wounds that haven't even opened up yet

Let me take this time to reflect on you
My heart is wounded, but my mind is set on you
Maybe right now isn't the best time for us
And you need to go elsewhere to find what's best for you

I know you used to love it when I kissed on your neck
Cupids arrow hit in my chest
I've got to pretend I hate you until I move past the thought of you
But deep down I wish you the best

My heart has hopes that my Pride and Ego won't allow to happen
I'm a slave to my pride and egos actions
Maybe one day I'll be strong enough to let both of them go and become stronger
But I'm not ready for that yet, so you'll have to wait longer

I was going to text you that I miss you but my ego got in the way
I was going to say I love you but my pride told me to throw them thoughts away
I was thinking that I'd like us to try with each other
I was going to say I want you by my side, but my ego got in the way
