My Dreamer

When the ground falls out beneath your feet I will lay you down to sleep. Dream Deeper--for the dreamer you see Will build you kingdoms to keep. Dance over your tears, Paint over your fears. When you awake to see your dreamer here, You will find I lay you down on a mirror. Smile back. It will be the first thing your dreamer Sees of you. Frown instead, And it will be the last image the dreamer Has in her head. Smile first. Dance next. Drink the wine, break the bread. Hug the imaginary friend That guards your dreams to the end. Toast to my memory, And I'll toast to you And before long, I'll be my own dreamer too.
