This is an actual experience I have almost every day walking my dog.
I'm sure others have had the same. But we love these little critters,
don't we?
My Dog Walking Me Out of the door, turn left, then cross I'll lead us on, cause I'm the boss. Let me see, it looks as though... over down this way, oh you must know it's just beyond the short plateau. Hey,quit moving like a swivel chair don't you see, it's quite unfair you've twisted the leash to a sudden stop... and made me do a belly flop! Listen up don't push, don't pull. Remember when I made the rule? So take it easy not fast not slow. Straight, quick right, then forward, Go! Yes, I see that pug nose clout coming close to check me out. But just for now some quick short smell In places that we dogs can tell You'd rather not talk about O.K. let's go, no time to shmooze Its them or me, you must now choose Cause there are places to explore The trees and grass are right next door and lots of spots I've smelled before. It's time to stop, ahh that feels fine. There'll be lots more, on down the line. I love all this roaming round, and look at all the stuff I've found. The weekend's gone the parks new spaces are full of many special places. And as I waddle and roam around I sense the earlier festive sound ...has all I like to see, hear and smell. I think its great, oh, can't you tell? I'm happy but it's time to go back home to snooze, relax -although; perhaps tomorrow, I'll not complain, I get to do it all again. CAK 6-20-2012

A LOVELY piece! I've written one like this once... tho mine had me chasing after cars, and squirrels, and eventually up a tree...

hello Allan, a wonderful routine. Fun, but it sounds like something I would not like. Not that I have anything against dog walking. I just don't like my puppy leading me around. LOL... Hey, Allan, I enjoyed this, very much. I trust my dog, to roam, and enjoy nature without me standing behind him. thank you... Linda

Linda, my dog is still a puppy. He is hyper and wants to smell everything but is the cutest thing.Part Pomeranian and ???. Everybody loves him. You would to. My wife was not a dog lover but he is now her dog. So glad to hear from you again. When will you publish a book of your amazing poems? Allan

As a dog lover and parent, I totally identified with this piece. Sammy, our cocker spaniel, is difficult on a leash, but Bilbo, our boxer, aside from pulling me along sometimes, does very well on his leash. Great write, Allan; enjoyed it immensely :)
