Tonight I feel weary
after reaching another milestone
in my life
On and off throughout the day
I have pondered
what I’ve gained and lost
through the years
People have intertwined themselves
into my days
while others have been set free
I’ve encountered loss
seen history in the making
natural disasters’ devastation
I’ve embraced love
in so many ways
unconditionally
with an open heart
As I rest my body and mind in slumber
I ask God to be kind
and allow me to wake for yet another chance
to savor the taste of one more day
One more gift to open and cherish
