My Conscience

My conscience, the voice of disappointment, When I have severed a meaningful bond-- An unwelcomed inner acknowledgment For choices made, of which I am not fond; Times I wish I could have a magic wand To make my improper choice go away, Times I kept my inner values at bay. I must always hear that small voice inside Every waking moment of every day, And let my conscience be my trusted guide. NINTH PLACE WINNER written May 31, 2021 for "Voice of Conscience" poetry contest sponsored by Unseeking Seeker

Hi Milt! Love the dizain form for your poem. There is an either or voice for each set of couplets - like the process of conscience weighing a decision. Congratulations on your win. Well done. Blessings to you.

Milton, there's nothing wrong with placing any preposition at the end of a sentence! It's a dumb rule pontificated by the 17th century English poet John Dryden. Google "Wonderopolis." / Maurice

Thanks, Maurice. It was just the way I was brought up! My English teachers frowned on it, would not allow it in writing papers.

You have described the conscience well. "For choices made, of which I am not fond;"

Well, at least I got the preposition in the right place, which is not always easy to do in poetry.....

L Milton, This Dizain in self reproach, and deep reflection has quite the conscience. A well conceived message from one who would find value in better choices. That inner voice serves you well. Such a fine one, this write. -Richard
