My Beautiful Afro

MY BEAUTIFUL AFRO Said you liked the real Jamaican coffee You liked it black, No cream, no sugar But you liked it hot. My heart stirred, Best pick-up line I ever heard; You spending time with me Buying me gifts Oh this is bliss! It's been a while I realize You have no family or friends Or else, you're keeping me from them. Your lame excuses cannot make amends So just be real, just don't pretend. Our private world has been upset Your family and friends will not accept; Your cream with my coffee Just does not mix Now it's your world or this. To choose is to lose Yet I must refuse No cream will lighten my coffeed skin Or rob my beautiful Afro of its kink. Goodbye. I'll always remember that you tried. What you are able to see Is who I am inside For me to change would be a lie So I'll choose to keep my coffee, my afro and my pride. Marj Bless ***

I found this to be moving and relevant. I live in Canada and we are a true melting pot. My wife was born in Hong Kong and our son is engaged to an East Indian girl. It appears colors can indeed be mixed. The important part is to not lose ourselves in the process. I am adding you to my favorite poets.
