My Backyard

Sit in my backyard
Listen to crickets chirp
Pretend freeway noise
Are really
Ocean waves
Breathe in
A sweet fragrance
Of spring flowers
Mixed with
Neighbor's cigarette smoke
Watch cows
Grazing peaceful
See war planes
Racing overhead
Taste sweet blackberries
Hoping not to be poisoned
By pesticide
Smile as young children
Run and laugh
Pretend their parents
aren't really
screaming at eachother
All this
Can be found
in my own backyard.
