My Atonement

What Gods there were

I did not know then,

And was not concerned with Gods.

But I do know now,

HE can come to us in any form.

Attacked by the dragon, Cancer,

Threatening to take away

My one talent to speak.

I did not see HIM positively,

But I do feel him now,

HE came to me as a doctor,

And gave me many years,

To see and play with my grandkids.

========================

I was inspired to write this poem on reading ON HIS BLINDNESS by JOhn Milton. When I was attacked by cancer of Vocalchords in 1994. I dedicated this poem to Dr. Dr. Girish Misra who came to me in the form GOD.

For contest - Edge by John Heck

Very moving poem, Dr. Ram. We all are grateful to your doc to help you to come over that disease! You should know that my mother died from cancer when I was in the middle of my dissertation at the university in another city. She had a tragic end...Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us and best of luck for the contest. Thank you for your kind comment on "Forgetfulness"...Gert

This sent chills over me! My dad had COPD, turned to lung cancer. He was up in years, and we knew it was time for his departure from this life. Still, I HATED that cancer with a vengence! I am glad you had a positive outcome. Good, skilled doctors DO make a difference! BTW, your name (Mehta) makes me recall Dad's doctor...I consider him to be an excellent doctor! I'm glad I found your poem this morning. Thank you! Good luck in the contest!:)
