- My Annabel -

Deep in the closet where there is a dusty old shoebox
I take it out carefully.....lift the lid off
Inside the shoebox is my beautiful Annabel
Annabel is my Christmas present of
                fifty years ago
                My "sleeping doll" Annabel
Annabel has beautiful blue eyes, which are
                closed when she`s sleeping
Poor Annabel now she can just close one eye
Annabel had beautiful yellow curls, now there
                are no curls left
                The curls are brushed away
One of the arms are almost torned off
                but it`s there yet
Annabel how much fun and joy we had
How good it was for me,you were my best friend
Memories of the time we had together, make me
feel a tear on my cheek
I ask myself.....is it really that long ago
.... Annabel so beautiful you are
                Sleep well Annabel

i was really shocked when i read this poem, i opened it because the title stuck out. it reminded me of Edgar Allen Poe's Annabel Lee. thought maybe you were paying tribute to him. instead i found this pleasant surprise that brought back some forgotten childhood memories. this was well written, its rare that a piece can bring back happy memories.
