I see you, my two-legged neighbor stopping and standing at the yellow-tape barricade to my home. I wonder where you all have been? I miss you walking on your looped path through my backyard with wires going into your ears and those branches you carry as you walk, the headbands on the fast-walkers and the colorful shoes of some. I DON’T miss the smaller two-legs who try to chase me up a tree or those barking four-legs that try to eat me for lunch! But I DO miss you quiet ones who seem to adore the serenity of my home – smelling flowers, listening to birds, admiring trees, beholding the sky’s colors at sundown, tossing nuts or bread crumbs to my kind. What you call ‘social-distancing’ I call a way of life… Mutual respect, Mutual solitude. Written 6 Apr 2020

Poetry too, stands in my eyes as one of the heroes during this sad time as the pandemic rages on. We all need to have bits of serenity in our lives to help keep us positive and inspired. Your poem accomplishes this beautifully John! Congratulations on your deserving high placement in this contest. I loved reading this gem! Happy Easter my friend. xxoo

to put one's self in the mind of an animal and explain the way things are from their eyes is brilliant... one can only wonder what they think of the quietness... enjoyed the train of thoughts in this one! hugs

Sandra, I guess being cooped up so much has broadened my imagination a bit. Doing more personification and "what if..." questions these days. Mostly subconsciously, but thanks for noticing it, and gracing the page with your sweet words. Hugs ~ John

Nice one! As we are all locked in seems like nature and wild animals are thriving and freer. It's funny how our temporary lack of freedom is their own freedom.

Yes, in a way we have become like the rabbits and squirrels, observing humans but keeping a safe distance. Thank you for the lovely comment. I enjoyed seeing your two new poems this week, Rercy.

How clever, to tell this from the point of view of the squirrels - that last line, so nuanced..

Thank you again, dear friend. It's awesome how we can all inspire one another by creating contest prompts, by reading one another's creations, or by commenting on what we have read.
