Notes About The Poem

Music To My Ears

All types of music appeals to me
Bohemian Rhapsody was one of the first records I brought
Can’t specify one style over another, I will listen to anything
Depends on my mood as to what type of music I choose
Enjoy going to see live music whenever I can
Freddie Mercury was the best performer I have EVER seen
Gosh that was so long ago at Knebworth Park in 1986
Have loved listening to music from an early age
I listened to light classical music until I was about 11
Jazz music I love, especially Glen Miller
King of Rock and Roll was Elvis Presley
Love to write my poems when listening to music
Music stirs up the emotions some tracks make me cry
Never travel without my MP3 player to keep me occupied
Organised … I have my funeral music sorted so they know what I want
Pink Floyd are one group I would have loved to have seen live
Queen – the most memorable gig ever 140,000 people - wow
Rock music I love to listen to at any time
Simon & Garfunkel Bridge over troubled Water one of my all time faves
Time to say Goodbye is the final song to be played at my funeral!
UB40 I saw them live with the late great Robert Palmer
Vienna by Ultravox - one of the greatest ever single to reach #2 in the UK
Without You by Harry Nilsson is one of my favourite emotional songs
XTC were famous in the 1980’s – I love their song ‘senses working overtime’
Yesterday by the Beatles – is one of the most covered songs ever written
Z Z Top and Zucchero very different in styles but I love to hear them both

ABC form is difficult, so I usually avoid it. You did a fine job, though. Sorry to tell you I dislike your choice of music, except Glen Miller and the Beatle sons "Yesterday" which is as good as any song Schubert ever wrote. Musically I'm what most people would call a old stuffed shirt classicist; it's the only music I listen to, 7/24. Success in the contest. / M

Jan, you chose a really unique way to give us your FAVE music. Wow, you worked hard on this one. I entered an oldie that I hope she likes! Hmmm, you were listening to all those oldies. You can't be too far behind me in age then. hahaha

In ancient Greece at the time of Socrates and Plato and later on, no one could get a university degree and be considered educated unless he played a musical instrument for there was gymnastic for the body, mathematics for the mind and music for the soul that could unify the Man. Any kind of music enables man to elevate himself to higher planes and become Apollonian. I loved your... encyclopedia of music! A seven for such an informative poem!

I never thought of funeral music until i had to arrange dad's funeral and it was so hard to do at such a difficult time - so i will make sure everything is sorted for me in advance - got to be proactive - never know when it is going to happen:-( hugs jan xx
