If there could be a magic hill         to take me back in time    I'd find out who discovered rhythm -           who invented rhyme,      and who created melody               and harmony sublime,          or ensemble's and orchestra's         sweet sounding paradigm. Their names engraved in some lost cave -     if it were not a crime,     I'd happily explore such cave, such hill I'd gladly climb,     to know those who so gifted us, and sound a grateful chime.

Very nice, John! The great beginnings and yet don’t they all begin with God. We follow patterns. I love that you would look in a cave…the search unearthed would be sublime!

You have a feel for music and rhythm, it shows in your verse like this one, I don't know who wrote the first poem (Beowulf seems to get the official nod but nobody can say for sure) but I would like to climb that hill and find that cave too~

Thanks for this comment Michelle, I started writing lyrics when I was 17, before I started doing poems, so I guess my rhythms do tend towards a songlike feel and structure. I am always curious how things first got started. Enjoy your Sunday ~ John

yes, rhyme is so beautiful and I do not know why it's considered a NONO in the world of modern poetry . WEll, in the intellectual journals, etc. this is a wonderful poem, John. Wanted to tell you. our dear dog died and it put hubbie into a tailspin of depression. but yesterday we got a kitty. OH MY, he is SO cute. White and with blue eyes American curl cat!

So happy for you and Joe, and hope cute kitty helps bring him out of his depression of grieving for Snickers. Thanks for the read and comment, my friend.

How unfortunate that we cannot find that magic hill. I need it so much as I find rhyming difficult not being English.

Who can find a poet so fine who returns the favor of rhymed words to savor? Thank you, dear Belle, I am honored by your lovely comment.

Quite a bit of magic in this poem, John. And I'd much prefer to take your 'magic hill' back in time than some kind of 'magic pill!' ~ Still clean after all these years

John, your poem is so well-written and arranged, like a beautiful piece of music. I also noticed it is an exquisite vase holding the interesting flower arrangement of musical notes. Simply lovely.
