Murder, She Wrote

Miss Jessica Finch, the avian sleuth Was scratching out novels and sipping vermouth. She lived a charmed life when she was quite young; Her first book, “The Voyeur: Peeking Duck Hung”. “Peacocked and Loaded,” no rivals, unequalled. “All Bluster, No Muster, “ a fan-favored sequel. “Migratory Murmurations of a Wandering Heart” And “Starling, My Darling,” her cross-over art. “Covey of darkness: the Unpheasant Truth” Shines light in glass houses, unkempt and uncouth. The one she’s best known for, that everyone one knows That suspenseful thriller, “A Murder of Crows.” But the one she loves best, that still gives her pause, The brilliant court drama, “Probable Caws.” ————- for the A Flock of Birds Poetry Contest sponsored by Julia Ward written on 09/24/22

Enjoyed Jeff.Had murder of crows on the brain the other day.Saw picture of gnarled old tree full of large dark birds and thought murder of crows, gotta do something with that. I suspect sometimes inspiration falls from the sky and must be acted upon before scooped up by another.Guess you beat me to this one.Great job as always.

I can see a TV series based on Miss Finch's works, Jeff. And this piece sure puts a feather in your poet's cap. BOL in the contest.

There are so many funny names for collections of animals! Who knew of a 'murmuration of starlings'? English is indeed a wonderful, expressive language in its own right. Thanks, Jim!

If not, I'll have to join a lamentation of swans, and try to avoid a conspiracy of ravens...
