Notes About The Poem

“The softest hand may guide the darkest fate.”

Murder Me with Cashmere

VERSE I
she brushed across my shoulders
the bedroom light broke
a breasted scimitar—dancing thoracic throat
what I once outran—now presses my lips
she carried no black-wing omen
yet every breath drew near
purple velvet summons
Murdering me with Cashmere.

PRE-CHORUS I
kiss drawn, the walls slant inward
and rouge, the dark-root took shape—
as if her inborne blackwork
could make the night a colourless drape.

CHORUS I
Murdering me with Cashmere
tugging at my countless heartbeats
stripping me down to bare nerve
Murdering me with Cashmere
touch that lifted a ceiling curve
a birthright that denied me standing

VERSE II
the air lost a beat near her
piano shuttered its strings
her keratin ruled its hidden kingdoms
where songs outlived clipped-wings
one quick brush of softness
could tilt the atmosphere—
an unquestionable sovereign reign
Murdering me with Cashmere.

PRE-CHORUS II
marrow-sapped, my bones bleached white
and oooh, my will to power grew thin
her presence pressed antique velour
against my browning-paper skin
a blue-litracution mocked my manly core

CHORUS II
Murdering me with Cashmere
negating my defenses
melting my deep fear
Murdering me—only Cashmere
mist that would not recede
a spell that outlasted me

BRIDGE
she stood there—the verdict given
queen without a crown
her secrets a crashing thunder
hinged to pin me down
and I—
climbed, she was higher
and her hemlock closed in—too near
I fell into her ghast-lit shadow
Murdered soft by Cashmere.

FINAL CHORUS
Murdering me with Cashmere
kindness with a strangler’s grip
a calm that finished the work
Murdering me in Cashmere
queen in vestment of highness—
Lady Caledonia Blue— cyanotic.

OUTRO
she brushed across my shoulders
the world skipped a breath to grieve
softness that occluded on my lungs and stayed
refused to let me leave
her after-mint lodged in my vertebral mind
thorn in every flowing tear—
the night she claimed my arrhythmic heartbeat
Murdering me with Cashmere.

Her romance is strangulating. Under her bewitching spell, you lost your manhood. She with her iron hands in velvet glove murdered you with Cashmere. With 'softness that occluded on your lungs she stayed and refused to let you leave.' I am sure you were in a real predicament. 'Her kindness with a strangler's grip' is frightening. This poem is a warning to men who find themselves imprisoned by the silken charm of seductive women. It is so hard to liberate oneself from their tightening clasp . A wonderful composition on the dual force of love.

Dear Daniel, your poetic creation is a fascinating piece that seems to breathe as it reveals textures of dark romance with imaginative, expressive, haunting, mythic imageries. Your metaphors are beautifully crafted, I was especially struck by "thorn in every flowing tear" - so emotional, so tactile, soft and sharp at the same time. Your masterful pen spills ink of gold, my poet friend. Warmest wishes.. ~Susan

Ypo always manage to write great lyrics. The poem "Murder Me with Cashmere" explores the paradoxical intersection of softness and destruction, framed through a dark, mythological lens. Symbols of luxury and gentleness—cashmere, velvet, and soft hands—are depicted as weapons that "strangle" or "occlude" the speaker's lungs.

Hello Victor, I appreciate your thoughtful take on the poem. You captured the tension I was working with, the softness that becomes something far more dangerous. Thank you for reading it with such insight. Blessings, Daniel

This is a really striking contrast between softness and destruction. The idea of being ‘murdered with Cashmere’ is paradoxical and powerful, it turns comfort and elegance into something overwhelming and consuming. I like how you express how there’s a haunting beauty in how softness becomes something almost dangerous here. It feels like desire, power, and surrender all wrapped together in velvet and shadow

Your poem is truly a lyric, and a good one. Being a lyric, could it become a song? The only thing I might add, Daniel, you really have to be a little more firm with women. Joke intended.
