Mr Sandman
Mr. Sandman, thank you for sleep
It gives me the rest that I need
To keep going, struggling on through
Toward the places I need to go
Work, store and post office
Mr. Sandman, thank you for sleep
It fills me with a deeply felt peace
Toward my heart and spirit’s center
A knowledge that I can think better
Because I have this wonderful repose
Mr. Sandman, thank you for sleep
Without you, I’d be losing my dreams
And I’d never discover the treasure of
Exploring the surface of my brain galore
Where those dreams are always stored
Mr. Sandman, thank you for sleep
I can’t imagine a day passing by me
Without your encouragement to be
A part of my self-esteem and sense
Of purpose, my respite from extremes
Mr. Sandman, thank you for sleep
There is no telling where I would be
If I didn’t know your time-out from
The world that has me going full steam
After the prize of my future things
Mr. Sandman, thank you for sleep
I rub my eyes around dawn and see
The new sun rising across the mountains
And I’m reassured that my dreams weep
With joy that I’ve been given this breather
Mr. Sandman, thank you for sleep
A gentle tug at my sleeve by my canine
And I’m reminded that I have to get up
Do those things that are requirements of
Being a responsible, conscientious adult
