Movie Snacks

When I was a kid at the movies With money to purchase a snack, I wouldn’t buy popcorn or bonbons Or Bonomo’s taffy to crack. My favorites were strange, I admit it And ones that I’d never now buy. The first, root beer barrels, were tasty And gave me a soda-like high. The other was Chuckle-like chewies But all of one flavor, in green, Called spearmint leaves, dusted with sugar And part of my movie routine. They’re both still around (Yes, I Googled) But neither’s retained its appeal Though back then, as a kid at the theater, They brought joy during many a reel.

This poem was yummy. Spearmint leaves are fun to use on gingerbread houses as trees. I'm such a fan of root beer barrels. I forgot all about them. So many smells and tastes bring back memories. I like this one. :)

Root beer barrels. Forgot all about those. I used to love those too, and the spearmint leaf shaped jelly's.

I think if you ordered them and began a little taste test you would remember so many things you have forgotten you knew. I double dog dare you to order those root beer barrels and spearmint flavored Chuckle-like chews!

My favorites were chocolate covered caramels – PomPoms, an Almond Joy bar (big then), and diferent kinds of pnny candies like Squirrels. I hardly vr go to the movies today – too expensive comared to the 16 cents I paid to see a double feature with a news reel and one or two cartoons. Now that was a bargain. / Maurice

I think I know the green things you talk about. Don't they come in many flavors as well?

you are like me, I had specific favorites that nobody eats any more. There were some candies like mints but I forgot their name. they were big and pink or you could get them different color flavors. Redhots was another fave, and those spitz or whatever they were called. i think Good and Plenty are still going strong. My absolute favorites. Love your candy poem

Enjoyed, yet I remain very grateful my grandparents raised me not to snack! Aloha!

So cute, Ilene. I recall that I could never watch a movie without a snack, even when I was not hungry at all. Oh, how I loved those caramels. Even now, when I'm planning to watch Netflix I pop popcorn first!

My late wife and my daughter were toffee addicts (they even named their cat "Toffee") yet both inherited teeth up to the task . . .Aloha!
