Orphan Sonnet
Created by: Dale Gregory Cozart with a rhyme scheme of Abab cdcd efef aA in three quatrains and a final couplet with the last line repeating the opening line.
In Alaska, near Mount Edgecumbe's feet,
fish built Sitka, a city with no road.
And so, Sitka's fame is its fishing fleet;
where time is never spent; it is borrowed.
A scarlet sun bleeds on Edgecumbe's peak
as deafening silence splashes on shore.
And its surreal sunsets are unique,
unlike anything you have seen before.
Crimson clouds merge with ebony shadows,
and a plethora of stars light the dark.
Yet the night starts falling like dominoes,
calm chaos acting like an accent mark.
Paradise is an off-the-grid retreat
in Alaska near Mount Edgecumbe's feet.
