A Villanelle
A Villanelle is nineteen lines with an ( aba aba aba aba aba abaa ) rhyming scheme. Repetitive lines are part of the form the first and the third lines in the first stanza are repeated in alternating order throughout the poem and appear together in the last couplet (last two lines).
Sending light and warmth at the birth of spring
seasons are obedient to Her call,
Nature's the mother for whom the birds sing.
She commands the clouds and the rains they bring
ensuring Her forests grow straight and tall,
sending light and warmth at the birth of spring.
She summons storms, and the lightning they fling,
from a raging gale to a gentle squall,
Nature's the mother for whom the birds sing.
She freezes winter when icicles cling
and snowdrifts conceal the colors of fall,
sending light and warmth at the birth of spring.
She shapes the sun into a golden ring
and lights up the moon like a glowing ball,
Nature's the mother for whom the birds sing.
She's everywhere, controlling everything,
morphing misty droplets into a shawl.
Sending light and warmth at the birth of spring,
Nature's the mother for whom the birds sing.
