Mother In Laws

MOTHER IN LAWS Mother in law’s are known to be interfering and feared, Be loving, for they are the brunt of jokes of how they are persevered, For they can cause chaos and absolute hell, But can be sweet and understanding as well, For which side of the fence, are you geared? I have a daughter in law who’s swell, I could not wish for more, I can honestly tell, I’ll always love her, she is family, she’s my son’s wife, Who he chose to stay with, for the rest of his life, Show her love, you must, and then she’ll love you as well! The same applies if you have a son in law, Be respectful and caring, you don’t want the relationship to thaw, Don’t crowd the couple, they have a life of their own, Don’t harp and chew on the same bone, Be there when they need you, and don’t ever mention any flaw!

A very wise counsel from an experienced mother in law who knows how to win the love and support of her daughter in law. "Don’t harp and chew on the same bone, Be there when they need you, and don’t ever mention any flaw!".... These last lines, I love so much. Allow the couple their space and help them when needed.... ! This is the key to successful daughter - mother in law relationship.

Mother-in-laws have often been depicted as being difficult to get along with, but though it may be so in some cases, I am positively sure that many of them are awesome! Your poem certainly proves the moaners wrong, Jennifer! Warm regards // paul

Hi Paul, Thank-you for your comment, yes you are no doubt quite right, but mother in law jokes do exist far and wide! Thank-you for your soup mail and for bringing to my attention my mislabeling of my rhymed poem. It surely is no limerick but merely a poem that rhymes. Warm regards, Jennifer

I had the best, loving, adorable Mother in Law and I miss her everyday. She used to call me "My Sexy Girl" that was the nickname she gave me. She was so naughty and had such an infectious laugh. One of the things that made her the happiest Mother on Earth, was me marrying her son. Jenny, thank you for this poem. Another poem going onto my Favourite List. I absolutely adored this poem. Kim

Sage advice. I hope the world is listening, Jennifer, especially as we are sliding into the holiday weeks! I do believe you can be best friends with your in-laws. And the "not mentioning flaws" could also apply to your other relatives as well.

I believe the same Caren! Inlaws are in laws because you have inherited them, as your children did when they who got married. Its nice to have a harmonious relationship with all the family, but sadly, not always the case and not always the mother in laws fault, there are sister in laws too! Congratulations on being chosen firs on Community poets, you deservedly deserve it! xoxo, Jennifer.

Hi Arturo, No, not in all cases, my mothers mother treat my dad like her own son and even with his last breath when my father was dying, he called her name. My daughter in law had to go away for three months, and i missed her as I would my son. Thanks for your comment Arturo, they always cheer my day! Best wishes Arturo, Jennifer.
