There's cobalt clouds across the sun A nice cool breeze moves the oak tree Somewhere on earth, someone buys a gun All the while, the sun shines with glee Jesus loves all Though some men brawl Breeze dances with wind chimes for fun Little babies become latchkey Confused, bewildered, come undone They need our love don't you agree Dark clouds gather Sun we'd rather
Date: June 04, 2022 Sponsor: Emile Pinet Contest: Posie Poetry Being a latchkey child does not mean they will turn out bad or confused or suffer from depression, but it does affect some children in the wrong way. So much goes into the makeup of any human, no one can say it is this or that, that causes their moral decline.

Jenna, Well the point of the poem was to say what can we do as a nation or community to provide for these children with some adult supervision when they might be alone. I appreciate the visit to my page with congrats. Sara

Congrats on your win, Sara. Actually, back in the 70s I had a key on a string inside the letterbox, so I guess I might have been deemed a latchkey kid… but I turned out all right… your honour. ;-) Terry

Thank you, Terry for sharing your personal experience. I also for a time was a latchkey kid but there was no key. I lived rural and my parents worked on different shifts plus my older brother lived at home and he worked on another shift so someone was home all the time but might be sleeping because they worked at night. I turned out. LOL..I don't know if alright. Thanks for the visit. Sara

It's sad that some are left alone, but in the world, we live in today. Somes parents or a parent may not have any other choice that they are aware of. Good luck in the contest my friend. Bill

Bill, I know it has to be hard on a single mom or dad when they have to work when a child is at home without an adult there to supervise. Thanks for dropping by. Sara

Alexis, Yes, that is true and that is why after school programs are so important. A day care center or two here are offering 24 hour a day care so that parents can bring their children when they need them to be looked after. Thanks for dropping by. Sara

Kids need supervision no matter what they say. So much can go wrong. My children tried to convince me they would be fine without a sitter, but they got one anyway. My husband and I worked our hours so that one of us would always be home and when we were not able we got someone to come in. There were three of them. I agree with your poem 100%. Blessings xxoo

Connie, Sometimes even those who are now considered adults need adult supervision but don't get it or refuse it. I am glad that you saw to your children's needs like you did. I know they appreciate it now as adults. Thanks for the visit to my page. Sara

I think on the whole Sara, it’s not a great idea to let kids become latchkey, lack of home support and supervision by parents perhaps too busy out working, is detrimental to a child’s long term development, your poem’s position is quite brilliantly expressive, cheers David

David, I truly believe that little ones need adult supervision, but I know some mothers do what they have to do to be able to survive. I think after school programs, Girl and Boys Clubs, churches doing after school programs, etc. help with these situations where they can. I hope that more are created. Thanks for your visit. Sara
