Moribund

"And after I exist, what then And after life can cease, what then And after I'm content and free Set loose from this reality And after all my soul is here Without the shackles of my fear What then? What is there left to do When all I've been is gone and through To live, to rise, to fade away To burn down with the dying day To fall as leaves when summer's done To die down with the setting sun Is this all truth, is this all life To fade, once lived, into the night Like love which lives that it may die Perfection begs to be denied Complacency is crucified Absolution, incomplete Confirm a failed reality Cleanse the waters of this stream Into imperfect purity If this is life, but to achieve And then to fade into the countless numbers of the days Then let me live for more than this Then let me climb from the abyss And never know what it could be To know this perfect purity Let me never be complete Let never rest these weary feet" So walked he out the darkened door Into the streets of ashen gray For in a world in black and white He found that he could never stay Into the rain, away from light Into the end of all his days He walked, he faded, glad to be Imperfect in his purity Fallen In a way
