More Secret Selves

I've been wondering about our secret selves... The vegetarian smoker The introverted joker The soldier with the peace sign The anonymous byline The accountant with unfinished sums The deaf musician's steel drums The blue collar millionaires The conservative who dares The scientist who prays The vagabond who stays The man who kneels to take a stand The female poet who's a football fan We are all more than we seem... 12/26/18 Submitted to 'Honourable Mentions Worth Mentioning' contest Sponsor: Richard Lamoureux (I like playing with the idea of secret identities, which started me thinking of how everyone is both Clark Kent and Superman, we all have a face we show and a face more private and unseen-)

Oh, I see now how you developed this from your earlier write. Nice how you found a rhyme for each. Have you considered entering this in the couplet contest (which is about to close)? Your comment regarding Superman is so insightful. "The man who kneels to take a stand" is so clever, as are all of these. I love thought-provoking writes such as this, Michelle. Makes us want to look beyond the surface of others, as well as question how much of ourselves are we willing to reveal? Well done ~ John

Thank you for taking the time and interest to read and comment on some of my older poems - yes, I am intrigued by the idea of looking beyond the mask.

Hmmm. I see that this intriguing poem, this undervalued 'HM' didn't get a trophy in the new contest, but is '4th' equivalent to another Honorable Mention? LOL. Any way you slice it, this is a great paean to all those who take the 'Hypocrit-ic Oath.' Happy Mother's Day, Michelle! ~ Gershon

You sure are right, there are so many people, hiding so many things, well after reading this poem of yours, I must also tell you a secret, you see I am a student and nobody in my school knows that I do poetry, no one not even my english Literature teacher and last week she was telling me the difference between a line and stanza, lol, and I was just sitting there, listening to her, shh, don't tell anyone, it is a secret, anyways many congratulations on your win in my contest, good luck

Straight to FAV, but I do have to admit the anonymous byline has always confused and concerned me.
