More For Me

I sold the oven and bought a microwave
I can't even make a pot roast
(You took the cookbook with you)

It's like my torture chamber for refrigerated food
Zapping all the nutrition like a superpower
I make that nerdy reference cause you're not around
The audience in my head is the only sound

So you can keep your Ronald McDonald hair due
I'll keep my pride and my wallet
You can keep your "garden trimmings" I pretend to like
And I'll live off Hot Pockets

When you leave through that door
Don't forget the makeup that makes you pretty
I'm making popcorn for a grand total of one
Cause there's more for me

I'm kicking my feet up on the table,
Do you like the rings?
(I fed your handmade coasters to the dog)

I'm taking it easy like a log on a lake
Letting the leaves pile up cause I don't have to rake
Through out the whole day I'm flipping through the channels
Shirtless... I don't have to wear this ugly flannel

Baby, you can just walk on by
I'll even wave you a goodbye
(Can't mouth the words with Bud Light don't my throat)
I'm redecorating the house
Burnt the traps and claimed a pet mouse
(Made a bed for him from my "favorite" coat)

And without you around
I can be more frivolous with my money
I'm ordering take out with a side of fried rice
Cause there's more for me

They say doing well is the best revenge. I found this very entertaining. I am glad you haven't been heart broken.

I thought I'd get some varied comments on this... and it looks I did! I write what I feel at the time... so perhaps my head is a little too sporadic and jumbled up? In either case I'm delighted to have you think of me as one who keeps changing it up.

hey, this is most of the stuff I would do if my hubbie went away for a long time. I am kind of a slob (but not TOO bad. hahaha) I enjoyed this one.

Haha, you're so funny Andrea! I can't cook worth squat so I'm sure my microwave would be like a friend to me if I was alone for awhile!

I love the sarcastic tone throughout, the "I don't care, leave!" attitude, very effective--also love the symbolism. Really nice! Can't wait to read more from your poetry list! Always, Laura

Yes, it's true - there's more for you ..... You can do what you want ..... but still will be missing "something" --- (someone to share it with) - A little "angry / disappointed" poem Timothy. - Well written! - oxox / / Anne-Lise :)

Perhaps this poem is a little bit about the effects of 'living in denial? Well it's a selfish mindset I do admit, but it was all written in the spirit of writing to imagine and explore where your mind could take you. Thanks as ever Anne!

Timothy....it is good to vent...however, often humor is a camouflage for extreme sadness. Writing is therapeutic.

How true that is! Laughing off our sadness by writing... however this was a completely made up story. I've never been in a relationship with anyone (romantic relationship that is). But even through completely fictitious writing a writer will inevitably share a little bit more of his soul... appreciate your insight!

Interesting but sad...

Originally when I wrote this I was intending it to be more a joke (with all the weird references) ... however I get what you mean by that 'hint of sadness' in it.

LOL! I don't know why but your comment made me laugh... thanks for reading Judy! This is somewhat of a ridiculous lyric, but I still had great fun in writing it!
