Moonstruck

The night had pitch-black to its edges,
With a darkness considered the last hue.
All light fully extinguished as in a cave,
Like a promise that will never come true.
I sat on a village seawall overlooking a bay,
No speck of light anywhere as in a grave,
No horizon to distinguish night from day.
Seagulls, yes, not yet settled down to rest,
At home in the darkness, seemingly brave,
Not in sight, but their cry audible at best.
The night had a presence that cast wonder;
I could hear nothing now but distant thunder.
I sat alone in the company of my thoughts,
Gazing into the darkness to connect the dots.

It was then that the unexpected happened,
An event that not even Mother Nature knew.
An improbable light appeared in the heavens,
As clouds separated from their simmering brew.
The owl’s eye peeked from the edge of cloud,
Looking hesitantly down upon earth’s shroud.
At first, the light of the eye had yellowish hue,
Then turned bone white as its strength grew.
My premonitions disappeared as if put to rest,
The night had finally been put to the test.
A pathway of light now arrived at my feet,
Moonstruck, I sat in awe at this wondrous feat.
The mystery had now become perfectly clear;
I could now walk to the moon without any fear.

This is beautiful. When I am meditating I am doing just that. Open my mind, travel between stars, find that special light. It brings that feeling of balance, without fear.
