Moonlight Flit

Why is our stuff all in a box? And all my clothes in a pillowcase? Where are my toys, I want to play? They were all here yesterday. Why are the mattresses in the lobby? Why is the budgies cage covered up? Why do you keep saying, my son, just shurrup? I'm tired Mum, can I go to bed? Later son, later, was all she said. Don't make a noise, now there's a good lad, Just sit still and wait here for your Dad. What's Dad doing Mum, will he be quick? He's bringing a cart, he'll be here in a tick. What's the cart for Mum, can I have a ride? We can't pay the rent son, his Mum sighed. When Dad gets here I want you to be, Like a church mouse, as quiet as can be. Is it a secret Mum, does no one know? That's right son, soon we will have to go. We have a new house about five miles away, Hopefully that is where we will all stay. Near to my school Mum, or do I get the bus? Stop all these questions, don't make a fuss. Here's your dad now stay out of the way, Let him load the cart, needs to do it right, Don't want stuff falling when we leave in the night. Well son, now sit up on top, there's a good lad, On the bench between me and your Dad. You'll make some new friends at our new place, New school, new place, Mum that'll be ace. Quiet now son, as we leave in the night. A moonlight flit needs to be done just right. © Dave Timperley 17/11/2018
