Money Talks

I watched the Super Bowl, of course,
And made it ‘til the end.
The game was great, although
I’m not a fan and won’t pretend.

The show’s commercials usually
Are fun and worth a look,
But this year’s disappointed;
Just a glance was all it took.

For several were religious
And were very in your face.
To me, such ads did not belong
In such a time and place.

But money talks and anyone
With lots of bucks to pay
Can purchase airtime, hoping
That some minds they’ll get to sway.

Hi Ilene, I only watched the very beginning which wasn't too exciting in spite of all the Taylor Swift hoop la. I agree with you though, not many "souls can be saved", especially in that setting.

There is a large money flow in the Super Bowl. I like this poem. It is very honest.

I will say that I am among those who worship the gridiron game. You are right, there is a time and place, and this was not that time. Very poor taste. But since they bought the space, at least they could have made something other than poorly generated AI.

Dear Ilene, your poem eloquently captures the mixed feelings many had about this year's Super Bowl commercials. Your honest reflection on the blend of entertainment and advertising, especially the intrusion of religious themes. Your words remind us that money indeed holds sway even in the most unexpected places. Your poem is a thought-provoking commentary on the commercialization of media. Enjoyed ver much! - Blessings, Daniel

I just spool through TV ads, not sure religious ones are appropriate during a sports match, but I don't watch sport anyway but I know how popular the superbowl is:-) hugs Jan xx
