Mom

Mom
My soul cries for her lost life
It cries for Mom who is lonely and confused
It cries for what she has lost and what I have lost
The memories that have been stripped away from her
The emptiness that is left
The friends that no longer come by to visit
She sits alone and afraid, wondering what is going on
Not understanding why this is happening
Questioning where her Mom and Dad are even though they are long gone
She asks God why He won’t take her home
Why she has to stay and suffer the loss of her mind
Every now and again a memory surfaces and a smile appears
Otherwise her eyes are sad and lost
Torn by the pain of not knowing
Until even that is gone
And only an empty husk of a shell remains.
So yes
My soul cries for her lost life.

Hello, Maxie Your poem which I would categorize as free verse rather than light verse, was really moving. We are never sure as readers whether we are reading fiction or true life experiences but this poignant poem came across as the latter and presented so well the pain of the lost identity of a loved one.
