Notes About The Poem

 

Note: Mohammad al-Hah Ali escaped war torn Syria, managed to migrate all the way to the UK, and then pursue his dreams by studying civil engineering, only to be killed in the London Tower fire.

 Nothing would be more fitting than a new construction with this mans name, a man who wanted to build not tear down. That he escaped the ravages of war only to be killed so senselessly would sadden anyone’s heart.

The first Masons, were from Phoenicia, present day Lebanon and Syria, so the irony, that someone came from a land famous for constructing great buildings, suffered this way, is an immense sadness.

He wanted a better world, he wanted to re-build his own Country, let us honor him by helping to build that better world.

You looked up to the skies
Praying angels would guide your voyage… sigh
Away for the brutality, of Assad and his war
You escaped, brothers three in arms
Loving, and wanting to build a better score

Wishing peace and happiness, to bury all wars strife
Dreams of an engineer filled with hope and new life
The irony is that you would have to fear
Some engineer before you, who let the fires
Kill the poor the small and unspoken ones
Assad you see appears in many forms
Evil and greed often born of the same seed

I only say to you and your brothers
We weep for you, one and all, no one should suffer
I too now, have a dream
A building, beautiful, majestic and masonically tall
Named after a builder who lost his future in London’s fall
To the British elite who care not at all
Dignity belongs to all people, no matter small or tall

The so called free world is just not quite ready to be so liberal. Forgiveness is easier than forgetting. A powerful write for a most worthy cause. The free world understands very well, most migrants are escaping extremism, I might add, that there was also a family of migrants escaping the extremism of Syria a few thousand years ago, Mary, Joesph and Jesus, they too faced the same prejudices. Sad indeed people dont learn from history.
