Moaning Mona

Moaning Mona
Oh! Oh!
Oh no,
moaning &
complaining;
her draping
archaic.
Drop a little off
the shoulder,
Mona, baby.
Show a bit
of cleavage.
Best to smile
and wink,
to stay abreast
with modern society.
Mona, don’t
grow cold.
Keep your clothes on.
Save the nudes
for someone else.
You’re only good
when you follow us-
your dark eyes
kept safe behind glass.
Don’t be mad, Mona,
your just a common figure
in history,
a class act,
not suited
to get between satin sheets.
Your mud-pool irises
and hair match-
same dye
for both, Mona dear?
Your alabaster skin
pale as moonlight.
Your handsome hands-
Leonardo found them
enticing. So do we
as we admire
your sleeves. Stay
grounded, Mona…
Complaining
and moaning-
oh no! Here we go again!
Oh…oh…
Moaning Mona.

Such a hint of sensuousness for Mona Lisa; what a terrific poem you have created! I am sure she is blushing as she reads this tribute.

Well done, Kim; trying to think if I have ever seen the original? Maybe at the New York Museum of Art. Anyway, she deserves her place in history, for just have posed so long. Blessings my friend.

I saw the painting at The Louvre in Paris. She is small but I liked her.

Well, I guess even Mona Lisa has to adjust a bit to, ahem, 'the times.' :) gw

I watched an educational show once about restoring the Mona Lisa and other old classics. Fascinating stuff. They used lacquer based paints and over time it begins to fracture . They have to remove each tiny piece individually. Really cool! A very cool poem, Kim. A good read.

Some say that the Mona Lisa is actually Leonardo himself posing as a woman. So the trick is on us. LOL..I keep wondering if it might be true. Thanks for sharing and for dropping by my page. Sara
